I've managed!!! :))) Before getting into explaining how I did it first I need to apologise cause both photos were actually taken in March, but on the left one I was just trying to show how my crow looked for months and months. I am sorry for not having a true ''before'' photo, but being a perfectionist is hard cause you never want to take a photo striking a pose if it's not on point, haha! But no matter that, achieving a crow was one of the proudest moments in my lfie! You see, I am a leg person. Meaningly all my life I've been training legs A LOT more than my arms. It has nothing to do with not showing love to my arms, I just danced pretty much all of my life and when you dance, well, you don't quite do it on your arms, haha. So achieving anything on my arms is a big big success! :) I started my yoga journey in October 2014, but started playing with this pose only in January 2015. I remember being so frustrated because I couldn't hold myself what so ever and all I was left with were bruises upon bruises on my upper arms. I just couldn't do it! And then one day, actually the second picture shows the exact moment when I managed my first crow ever! We were taking photos for one of the challenges and I tried cause it was a given pose and I managed! The smile on my face was priceless!! I wouldn't change that moment for anything in the world! it's been almost two months since I managed my first crow ever and my balance in it is getting better and better day by day. And i can hold it for longer. Not really long, maybe 3-5seconds max, but a progress is progress and I am the happiest with that! Here's a photo from today! Why am I showing you this is because this photo shows a little trick that helps me achieve this pose! The main reason why crow was so difficult for me was because of my knees piercing through my upper arms. Then one day I saw this variation where you don't put your knees on your upper arms, but rather your shins and it worked! You get to strengthen your amrs to hold you in a crow and plus there are no more bruises on your upper arms! :)

Today's progress is a grasshopper's pose! You have no idea how happy I am about this one! I know, I know, these two pictures are taken on the same place and in the same time, but it's just because I've never wanted to record my baby grasshopper until I managed to lift myself. So the upper photo is how it used to look and the lower one is how it looks now! I know it's still a baby grasshopper, but progress is progress and that's all that matters! And plus, my arms are not the strongest so everything I manage to accomplish on my arms is a big wohoo for me! To accomplish this pose first work on your flexibility so you can easily grab your foot with your arm. Once you manage that, work on your arms and your core. Yes, core. Because although arms will be holding you up, the core is the one that will get you up. If that makes any sense, haha! I am not a pro at this, so sorry for the lack of pro terms. What helped me as well is that I tried to kind of clutch my quad on my ankle so it was easier for the core to lift me up. And with time your core will get stronger and it will be easier and easier for you! And that's all the magic! I hope this was of any help to you and just keep in mind it's your own progress and there is no need to compare your beginning with someone else's middle. Work at your own pace and do things with love and passion and the results will come, I promise! :) I am not really sure how many of you people know, but mermaid pose or Eka Pada Rajakapotasana is my favourite asana. You know why? Well, because it was the very first ''hard'' yoga pose I have ever accomplished. I remember the very first time seeing this beauty somewhere on the internet and I remember thinking how it doesn't look that bad. Then I decided to snap a photo of me doing it and, oh boy, was I wrong. Now, on the first photo, the one on the left, I wasn't even thinking of practising yoga. The only ''yoga'' I was doing was a stretch here and there after my workouts. The second photo was only one or two months into my yoga practice. But the key word is practice - for me that represents 5-6x a week. And the funny thing about yoga is - I wasn't even trying to accomplish mermaid pose. Not even once did I try to get into it after April. It scared me and I didn't want to let myself down again. If you asked me what I did to achieve it, I wouldn't know what to tell you. I was just focusing on what felt good at the time. And then one day, 6 months later, I decided it was time to give this pose a try again. And I managed! I realise my mermaid pose right now might not look as perfect as it should be, but keep in mind we are all a work in progress and every day I try to make it more and more perfect. If there is such thing as perfection though. |
